Fall in Thornbury: Walk the New Tree Trust Trail

Fall in Thornbury Walk the New Tree Trust Trail

Dear Reader, There’s something about the fall season in Thornbury. The air turns crisp, the leaves start to glow, and the town’s trees put on their best show of the year. This fall, there’s a new reason to slow down and look up. The Tree Trust has launched the “Tree Trail”, an interactive experience that invites residents and visitors to explore Thornbury’s urban forest and discover the stories behind six notable trees in our community. The Town of The Blue Mountains is proud to support the project, and we are excited to share about it, for hopefully more people to experience it.

Trees with something to say

Primarily Sugarmaple trees, you will be greeted by their fall beauty. Each of the trees on the trail was chosen for its unique character, its history, and its contribution to the community. Beside each tree, you’ll find a plaque with a QR code. Scan it with your phone and you’ll hear an audio story told from the tree’s own perspective. It’s a lovely mix of outdoor exploration, local storytelling, with the help of a little digital technology. It’s also a great way to learn about the trees that shape the heritage and character of Thornbury, and you may never walk past them the same way again.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Visit one of the six Tree Trail locations in Thornbury.
  2. Look for the Tree Trail plaque beside the tree.
  3. Scan the QR code with your mobile device.
  4. Listen to the tree’s story and learn about its place in the community.
  5. Carry on to the other trees at your own pace.

There’s no set route and no schedule. Visit the trees in any order, see one or see all six, and make it a quick stop or a full afternoon. There is an online map on the Tree Trust website that will help you find each location, on the map you can also click for additional information on the trees.

A perfect fall outing in Thornbury

The Tree Trail is designed for people of all ages, which makes it an easy fit for a family weekend, a visit with out-of-town guests, or a quiet solo wander. Bring the kids and see who spots the next plaque first. Pair it with a stroll through town, and make sure your phone is charged and your headphones are handy to enjoy the full experience.

With the fall colours at their peak, there may be no better time to meet these trees. Supporting initiatives like this one helps us appreciate and protect our community’s urban forest for years to come.
