Where is Thornbury, Ontario?

I have now been here almost 5 years! Every year I fall more in love with the Southern Georgian Bay area a little more than the year before. I feel so lucky to call this gorgeous area home. While it was an easy decision for me to move here, I realize some people may want some real reasons to relocate to Thornbury from a REALTOR® . My kids actually said, “Where the heck is Thornbury and why would anyone want to move there?” These are the same kids who now come up at least once a month. Soooo without further ado….here are some pretty compelling reasons to move to Adult Summer Camp that goes all year round!

In Thornbury, the age demographic is typically more retirees with the average age being 57. I like to call Thornbury the Older/ Active community because everyone here loves to play!

Thornbury has many upscale pubs and restaurants, and quite the live music scene. It’s a great place to get your “social on” especially if you like Open Mic nights like I do.

The Georgian Trail also comes through Thornbury so hit the trail on your bike, snow shoes or hikers and have fun exploring this 22 km trail the way you want.

Being active in the area is easy. Hiking and Biking the many trails (link to trails). Enjoy the areas many water sports at the local harbour including  sailing, kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddle board. Then there is the good old fashioned swimming and jumping the pier at the harbour.

A fun family activity that has become wildly popular is grabbing a canoe, kayak, stand up paddle board or a tube and cruise along the beaver river.  I have seen some very amusing inner tubes I think my favorite is the unicorn.
A fun spectator event to watch is the Chinook salmon run by the fish way ladder in the fall. The fish come in from Georgian bay and make there way up the ladder located at the bridge right here in town.  I love hearing the ohhhhhs and ahhhhhs when you see a salmon made the next jump up the natural stone ladder.

A great way to wrap up a summer weekend here in Thornbury is to head out to Bayview Park for the seasonal Sunday evening music series 6-8 pm! Bring a picnic and meet some friends to say goodbye to another beautiful weekend here in Thornbury

The list of REAL reasons to relocate is in no way exhaustive, you really have to see it to feel the great vibe this wonderful town has.
