Thornbury Pier
Thornbury Pier
The Thornbury Pier has been the talk of the town for many years, why you may ask? The Thornbury Pier had undergone construction recently, and it’s a happening spot in the summer, so dear reader, continue to learn more about the fun and fabulous Thornbury Pier!
Thornbury Pier Construction
May 12 2021 the town began construction with the much-needed revamping of the Thornbury Pier. The town of The Blue Mountains shared that the decision to reconstruct was due to the “deteriorated surface of the pier caused by years of high-water levels and ice damage.” As of September 28 2021, the Thornbury pier was officially finished which means it is even better than ever! Thornbury Pier in the Summer
Swimming
Now why a full blog post on the Thornbury Pier you may ask? Well, it’s a great spot in the summer! The pier is the perfect spot for swimming and jumping off into the crisp Georgian Bay. My favourite daytime activity right before dinner is to jump the pier and swim back to the little river beach. It is a perfect way to end the day and start your heart as the Georgian bay waters are “refreshing’. For those of you that have more time you can also soak in the sun and play with your little ones at the Little River Beach Park and playground right by the Pier. Bring your water shoes, towel, a pool noodle, or floaty and enjoy a dip in the refreshing water.
NOTE: Announced by The Town of The Blue Mountains, Little River Beach Park will be getting a new accessible washroom facility, this will be added to Little River Park in Thornbury this summer 2022. Construction for the accessible washroom facility is scheduled to begin June 22 2022, starting with the demolition of the existing washroom building. You can learn more about this construction project from the Town of The Blue Mountains Website.
Kayaking, Stand-up Paddle Boarding Or Yoga Anyone?
If you are looking for a little more action: bring your kayak or paddle board and launch in for a very beautiful and relaxing time on the water. There are also a few yoga classes offered throughout the summer on the pier…ahhhh Namaste! For more information and when classes begin: Mantra or Inner Yogies are the best!
Viewpoint
Not into swimming? Well, the pier offers a fabulous view of the Georgian Bay. Since it is very close to the Georgian Trail and is right along the Beaver River Trail, it’s a great spot to stop along your walking route to soak in some sunshine and Georgian Bay views! As you continue along, enjoy watching the boats go in and out at the Thornbury Marina.
Fishing
Fishing off the Thornbury Pier isn’t ideal as it is mainly a boating and swimming area. There are plenty of awesome fishing spots just past the pier, past the Harbour along the Beaver River. You will find lots of people fishing along the Beaver River all summer and fall long! Fishing season opens April 1 and closes December 31. Don’t forget to bring your fishing license if you are planning to fish in the area. If you don’t have one here is the link to get one.
Boating/Sailing
To the east of the Thornbury Pier is the Thornbury Marina. Currently waitlisted 5 years for a small craft under 21 feet or up to 10 years for 36 foot craft! Talk about a popular Marina. For more information on mooring rates and waitlist click here.
