Blue Mountain Home: Seasonal Home Maintenance Checklist
Welcome back dear reader, today we have a blog for our home owners, soon-to-be owners, and first time buyers who may need a little extra guidance on what to do for your Blue Mountain Home: Seasonal Home Maintenance Checklist! We have also made a downloadable checklist you can get here to print off and work your way through the seasons in order to keep your home in tip top shape (for you, and if you are looking to sell – for the next homeowner). Let’s start checking off tasks for this fall’s seasonal home maintenance!
Fall Seasonal Home Maintenance:
Fall is in full swing, it’s time to get cracking… or shall I say crunching, with all these leaves!
So let’s start by raking your leaves.
Clean out gutters.
Inspect the roof for any damages to shingles, any leaking or any signs of rodents.
Weatherproof doors and windows (sealing any cracks or gaps).
Preparing your HVAC system for colder months.
Replace filters.
Draining and shutting off outdoor faucets and sprinklers so your pipes don’t freeze (or possibly burst) over the winter months.
Store or cover outdoor furniture.
Think about what plants or crops you may want as some need to be planted ahead of summer-time blooms.
Inspect and clean your fireplace so you can enjoy it for the winter months worry-free.
Winter Seasonal Home Maintenance:
Winter is coming…
Notice any drafts? Check your insulation!
Maintain your heating systems & maintain a consistent indoor temperature to further prevent frozen pipes.
Ensure your walkways and driveways are safe and free of ice.
Ensure there are no ice dams on your roof or ice build up in gutters.
Spring Seasonal Home Maintenance:
When spring arrives, the spring cleaning begins!
Check and clean gutters and downspouts after the winter season.
Clean out your garage, and declutter your home. (We have a great blog on how to declutter here)!
Clean your windows, screens and doors.
Inspect and maintain your outdoor spaces.
Check your sprinkler systems (if you have them) and outdoor faucets.
Give your home a thorough deep-clean after the winter months.
Think about what plants you may want as some need to be planted ahead of summer-time blooms.
Summer Seasonal Home Maintenance:
Inspect and maintain your air conditioning systems.
Replace air filters.
If you didn’t in the spring, it’s time to clean and maintain your outdoor furniture, BBQ & grills
Inspect and clean your pool and perform any other maintenance it may require (if you have one – if you’re thinking about putting in a pool, read our blog – how much land do you need to be able to put in a pool?).
Prepare your garden and landscaping to enjoy in the full blooms in the summer.
Inspect your driveway and walkways and repair any cracks or damage from the winter freeze and spring thaw.
Monthly Home Maintenance:
Check and replace HVAC filters if necessary
Inspect and clean vents & exhaust fans
Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
Check for water leaks or signs of moisture in the house (by windows, in the basement, near your doors)
Ensure outdoor lighting is functioning properly
Check to ensure your address is visible to the street (not just for mail delivery, but also important if you’re ever in an emergency!)
Inspect and clean kitchen appliances.
