Summer in Southern Georgian Bay Bucket List
Summer 2024 is officially in full swing, and that means summer will be over before we know it, the time is now to take advantage of all the fun summer activities with a Summer in Southern Georgian Bay Bucket List! If you live in or plan on visiting Southern Georgian Bay, I have compiled a list of some of the fun must-do and refreshing local activities to take advantage of in The Blue Mountains and surrounding Southern Georgian Bay areas this summer.
Water Activities:
It sure is starting off as a HOT summer. There is nothing more refreshing than the crisp waters of Georgian Bay. Some fun water activities to add to the entire families bucket list:
InnerYogies for SUP (Stand Up Paddle boarding)
Rent kayaks from Surf and Turf along Highway 26
Kayak/Canoe/SUP down the Beaver River with Free Spirit Tours they also have some other awesome adventures so be sure to check out their website!
Or Take yourself on a self guided Beaver River Tubing Adventure which takes approx 2 hours. It’s best to have 2 cars so you can park 1 car in Slabtown, and 1 car at Beaver River access point #3, where you will begin, then end in Slabtown. You will need your own tube/floatie, and a dry sac with: sunscreen, car keys, safety kit, water, etc. (Check out our Youtube video where we show you exactly where to go Beaver River Tubing)
Take a dip at Bayview park in the refreshing clear Georgian Bay waters. – The Town of The Blue Mountains even added a new truckload of sand to the Bayview Park Beach area (We noticed on our Mother’s Day walk May 14, 2023).
Fishing:
Grab a rod and head set sail or wade into the fishing game, a fun activity for everyone in the family!
Top fishing spots in Meaford: Get your rod ready and head to beautiful Joe Park in Meaford for Bass! Bighead River at Legion Park or the Trout Hollow Trail or Meaford Harbour for fishing on the Georgian Bay.
Top fishing spots in Thornbury: Fishing along the Beaver River or by the Thornbury Harbour (Depending on the season you can catch Rainbow Trout and Salmon!)
Book a Fishing Charter through Reel ‘em in
Clendenan Dam for fishing and hiking
Collingwood Harbour fishing in the Georgian Bay is another great spot.
Thornbury Local Adventures:
The Fishway to check out the fish ladder & fishing (see above for great local fishing spots)
Visit the Thornbury Pier

Explore the four Thornbury Local Parks
Book a Round of Golf at Tomahawk $20 for 18 holes par 3 course (updated for 2024 season)
Sunday Farmers Market on from 10am – 2pm May until Thanksgiving weekend 2024
Another activity on Sundays Starting July 7 to August 18 2024 from 6-8pm is Music in Bayview Park featuring free concerts all summer long. Bring a picnic blanket or your camping chairs and enjoy!

Food & Drinks must-dos in Thornbury:
Thornbury Bakery to get from-scratch baked goods
Pom Pom’s for their ice cream, vegan options are available as well!
The Corner for their Live Music or occasional Trivia Night (tons of local events happening here!)
The Mill for the awesome views of the Thornbury Dam
Bruce Wine Bar Bodega has fabulous takeaway pizzas and daily sandwiches
Winifreds English Pub for their lovely Patio vibes
Thornbury Village Cider for a sampler flight + Market Series & live music (check their website for event dates)
Cheese Gallery can make up a fabulous appetizer platter to take on your own DIY picnic by the bay
The Blue Mountains:
Loree Forest for a hike and some yoga on the viewing platform
Imagination Studios for an artsy workshop
CraigLeith Provincial Park for some car camping, fishing, a day trip dip in the lake, or suntan on the beach
Caving or Rock Climbing with Eagle Adventure Tours
Crock A Doodle for some Pottery Painting
Kimber Valley Farms for a Farm tour
Meaford:
See some of the best spots in Meaford by taking a self guided Big Red Chair Tour. There are 10 Big Red Chairs in 10 wonderful locations!
Pom Pom‘s ice cream also has a location in Meaford!
Cannot forget about the Meaford Farmers Market on Fridays from 3-7 pm in the Meaford Harbour Pavilion from July 16 until Thanksgiving, October 8th 2023.
Wasaga Beach:
I don’t think a summer in Southern Georgian Bay blog post could be complete without a Wasaga beach visit. So here are some activities in Wasaga to check off your summer bucket list:

Wasaga Beach Farmers Market on Tuesdays from 3pm-7pm
