Thornbury was incorporated as the “Township of Thornbury” in 1833 and gained its independence from Collingwood to become the Town of Thornbury in 1887. In 1887 there were only a handful of homes and 100 people living here. Today there are over 3400 full time residents and many more are calling Thornbury their weekend retreat that they hope to retire to.

Thornbury boasts not one but two waterfront areas to live around! The town has homes on or within walking distance of Georgian Bay which you may know about. The second waterfront area is the Mill Pond, which is atop the dam and is fed water by the Beaver River.
